What is QuietTuning™?
Buick QuietTuning™ is a collection of tests and engineering upgrades Buick uses to minimize sounds in your car cabin. The QuietTuning™ process makes Buick car models more comfortable than the competition, with a better ambiance for drivers and passengers.
How does QuietTuning work™?
Buick tests its cars in a variety of physical and virtual environments, using wind tunnels and hot and cold thermal chambers to measure various extremes. No matter what weather Lawrence Township throws at you, Buick’s QuietTuning™ tests have accounted for it.
As a baseline, Buick QuietTuning™ uses traditional acoustic improvements to car design. Acoustic insulation materials, an acoustic-laminated windshield and acoustic-laminated side mirrors provide basic upgrades, while custom-engineered underbody paneling decreases wind and road surface noise and increases your fuel economy. High-strength steel gets rid of squeaks and rattles, while specially-tuned tires and a hydraulic underbody reduce vibrations.
To further increase your comfort, Buick uses liquid-applied sound deadeners, connects and seals the body with heat-activated baffles, specially tunes the air intake and exhaust systems, designs exterior mirrors to minimize wind resistance and includes their patented rear suspension.
Bose Active Noise Cancellation and QuietTuning
The Bose Active Noise Cancellation system included on certain Buick models uses onboard electronics to create your perfect ambiance. Microphones in your car’s ceiling detect noises in the cabin and send them to an onboard computer, which then processes the sound waves and generates white noise to neutralize unwanted background din. Buick models equipped with this system boast improved accuracy and responsiveness for the IntelliLink™ voice control system due to an improved signal-to-noise ratio, greater phone-call quality, and exceptional cabin comfort.
